MIRROR LYRICS: THE ILARIA NISTRI FW16 COLLECTION AND ITS GAME OF REFLECTIONS THROUGHOUT THE ROOMS OF HOTEL PARTICULIER IENA

2016|03|02_Just like entering into a game of reflections, into a story written in a kaleidoscope of mirrors. Rooms in a palace.

On the first floor of the Hotel Particulier Iena, the path leading from one room to the next is mapped out with lights and shadows, by the groove of a rock band and the echo of a waltz from a dance that has been and gone. An elegantly laid table marks an imminent dinner, but now, a solitary guitarist sits beside it, playing electric chords. And in the room next door, nature bursts in through the fireplace, filling it with plants like algae in the red of an aquarium. And finally, in the last room, a band plays live in the atmosphere of Only lovers left alive. And a chocolate warmth is everywhere.

Like the space inhabitants of a palace suspended in time, Ilaria Nistri’s women inhabit these rooms and invite guests to enter and become part of their dream.

The FW 16 collection is also a play on mirrors, where lights and shadows, structures and architecture create hypnotic effects, one after another, without a precise logic. The result is poetry, built from figures that are apparently different from one another but also perfectly in harmony. Thus they create a blend, a balanced mix of many materials in unusual combinations that bring together softness and rigidity, fluidity and structure, with lines where the essential design meet bold, bold surfaces. The brand new silhouette of the kimono forms a contrast with the prints in the collection but in the same way, blends perfectly with these sharp images. They are the result of collaboration with artist, AITOR ORTIZ , whose work focuses on the architectural images of buildings and their composite structures. The nucleus of his work is the concept of place, understood in its most metaphysical, abstract term. In Ortiz’s photography, the “concept of real and concrete” becomes lost as it moves closer towards an imagined architecture, consisting of landscapes that are midway between the real and unreal.
